Sometimes it works

This is a get well card for a friend, and also my entry for this weeks Play Date Cafe which is Black & White with a splash of lilac (although mine is more a case of Lilac with a splash of B&W - oops).

Stamp is by Crafty Individuals. Background paper is handmade.

John Barleycorn must die

Talk about "from the sublime to the ridiculous" - I think I've gone the other way!

After the somewhat "odd" previous post, here's something a little more restrained :)

This was another serendipity moment. I created these backgrounds sometime last year at one of the journal workshops with either Sarah or Sue, and they've been sitting in my art journal ever since. I was flicking through looking for inspiration, when this song* came on and I realised that the stencil reminded me of a wheat/barley stalk.

The backgrounds came about by accident. We'd been using wet-wipes to move paint around on a gesso'd page. I'd put my book down on top of a couple of them and when I picked it up I liked the effect, so grabbed all the ink stained wet wipes (that weren't a muddy grey/brown) and inked the page.

There's another double page spread made with the same effect, but it's so good that I'll probably never ever do anything with it (and it might upset some of the ladies at the Cubby Hole if I did).

*Bother! I'm not allowed to embed the song, so you'll need to follow the link to Youtube.

Got there in the end

This is my entry for this week's Play Date Cafe challenge, and to be honest I've struggled to put something together. Eventually this afternoon I managed to find some papers that matched the challenge palette, picked a stamp at random and went from there.
I'm still not sure about the finished result, but I know that if I don't leave it alone I'll make it worse, not better.

Stamps used are:
Puccini's Muse by Stampington,
Ginkgo by Inkadinkadoo
Kanji poem by Hero Arts.

Hymn to Her

I'm back, and with a nice new shiny PC :) To all those who have been kind enough to comment recently, I now have access to my emails again, so I'll respond soon. In the meantime, here is another music inspired journal page.

The words from are taken from "Hymn to Her" by Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders.

The embedded video is a solo live version. If you want to hear the original version try this.

Large stamp is from "Selene" from Third Coast. I still haven't identified the silhouette one.

Romantic Graffiti

A random piece of art journalling that came to me at yesterday's Cubby Hole Playday.

I'm not sure where I originally heard the term 'Romantic Graffiti', but I think it was referring to people who carve their initials into things.

The background has been in my art journal for months. The dark blue streaks were created by dropping a paint covered marble on to the page and rolling it around. Thanks to Sarah Anderson for that one.

The 4 images are from a Judikins cube "Soul Windows". Not sure where the scrap of text came from.

A little bird told me...

...that the colours on the latest Play Date Cafe challenge are green, silver and gold, so here's my entry.

The bird is gold, and the writing is silver. Unfortunately my PC died a few days ago so I'm having to use my netbook which means I can't edit the pic very well to bring out the shine.

Bird stamp is Stampers Anonymous, foliage is a mix of Artemio and Paper-artsey.

Curious

Is it chained to prevent anybody hurting it?

Is it dangerous?

Or is there another reason?

I'll leave it to you to decide.

Shadow box by Twiddleybitz, papers by Graphics45 & 7 Gypsies. Heart sewn and stuffed by me (that's why it's a bit of an odd shape).

This is my entry for the latest Play date Cafe challenge.

And finally, A happy new year to one and all - may it bring you love, laughter and happiness.
